Saturday Tournament with the Developmental Clinic!
March was an absolutely packed month for Squash on Track!
Starting off with squash, our students participated in their first and second tournament this month! Their first tournament was with the Squash Zone Saturday Developmental Clinic students—the kids got to hop on court and compete in a practice tournament. This was a great warm up before they played in the Spring Spectacular Fundraiser Tournament.

The 2022 Squash on Track Spring Spectacular Fundraiser Tournament was an incredible success! A huge thank you to all of the participants and supporters who made this tournament possible—because of you, we raised over $22,000 for our program and are extremely grateful for the support as we continue to grow our program. Our 8 teams (Teamwork, Respect, Appreciation, Communication, Kindness, Community, Sportsmanship, and Dedication) each made wonderful efforts in fundraising and on the squash courts. In 1st place for the highest amount fundraised was Team Sportsmanship, led by Vivian Lee who was our highest individual fundraiser as well! A congratulations to Team Kindness who took 1st place in the tournament and Team Community who took 2nd place. It was wonderful to see our Squash on Track students intermingle with Squash Zone members and our students played harder than we’ve ever seen them play. They seemed to be inspired and excited by the potential of playing at a higher level one day if they keep up their hard work and dedication to squash.
Exciting News!
We are excited to announce that in March, we opened up a new day of programming to bring in a new group of students! After our waitlist continued to grow, we decided to invite the waitlist students to join our program on Mondays, bringing our total number of students to 17! We cannot wait to have this group coming into the club more days once we find more tutors!
If you are able to donate an hour of your time on Mondays from 4:45-6:00pm, please consider becoming a tutor with Squash on Track! We’d love to have you come help them with their homework and become a mentor to them. Please contact alana@squash.zone if you’re interested!
Art Class!
We have also had some wonderful projects led by our art teacher, Cathy! The students explored branches and made connections between exponential math and branch patterns. Another day, the students created model tree stumps that focused on the textures of bark and sap, and the growth rings of a cross sections of a tree. We’re excited for our students to keep making connections between life science and art as we get ready to transfer our seedlings into our garden boxes soon, so keep your eye out for some seedlings in the garden boxes out front soon!

Next, we have our TRACK Star of the Month, Gio Barragan-Flores! Gio has been extra helpful and has shown a lot of growth in practicing good sportsmanship and a positive attitude on the squash court. We’re so proud of you, Gio!
Finally, we would like to highlight our TRACK Star of the Spring Spectacular, Leah Zambrano!! Leah showed strength and bravery in conquering her anxiety around playing in front of so many people for the first time. On our second day of the tournament, Leah was out there looking like a pro—showing great sportsmanship and keeping a positive attitude! Great work, Leah.
