Job Description:
Squash On Track (SoT) is the non-profit arm of Squash Zone a popular squash club in Redwood City, CA. SoT’s mission is to promote academic, athletic and personal growth through a program of squash instruction, academic support, tutoring, and community service. Participants are 4th-7th grade students from East Palo Alto and high school tutors from the surrounding communities.
Students are picked up from school and participate in Squash On Track activities Monday - Thursday 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Once at the facility team members spend an hour playing squash or other physical fitness followed by an hour of academic work either independently or with a volunteer tutor. Students use IXL for personalized math and language lessons and occasionally have homework assigned from school. Throughout the year we provide squash tournaments as well as group community service opportunities.
The Academic Coordinator’s primary objective is to ensure the academic performance of the students during the time they spend in the SoT classroom.
The Academic Coordinator must be able to:
Directly coach students with middle school level math and language
Manage a classroom of middle school students
Manage and support high school tutors who support students
Manage and leverage the IXL platform
Track student performance over time using software provided
Communicate about Squash on Track with school partners
The Academic Coordinator reports to the Squash on Track Program Director.
Previous experience managing students is required.
The position is part-time (20 hours per week). The program meets Monday - Thursday 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Squash Zone in Redwood City. The additional 8 hours per week can be done remotely.
The position is ideal for an educator, a long-term substitute teacher, current teacher or a previous educator.
